FILM. FRAMES 5-15 is a fragment of the work FILM. FRAMES 1-23, which is a reconstruction of an architectural structure in Düsseldorf: a fence consisting of 23 repeating but not quite identical black segments crossed by contrasting diagonal bars. In this object I recognised a film sequence recording the movement of a line and reproduced it accurately. To colour the object I used the black levkas technique. Levkas (gr. λευκός) means white, and this is the name of the primer for icons made of chalk and gelatine. Here the gelatine becomes a binder for black pigment and is also significant as a material used in the production of cinema films.
